Presbyterian Outlook Staycation Bible School 2021: Our Daily Bread Café: Where God provides
Are you looking for a way to engage elementary school-aged children this summer, but struggling with how to connect during social distancing? The Presbyterian Outlook has you covered with Staycation Bible School!
Christian educator Kelly Kaufman has crafted a week of VBS lessons and activities that can be done from home.
Theme verse: Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good!
This year’s Staycation Bible School will make your family imagine that you’re at your favorite restaurant or café as you explore together five food stories of the Bible. Using stories from the Old and New Testaments you will see the ways that God provides food for the world and how God uses us to help feed a hungry world. The curriculum will include:
- Manager’s plan: Welcome letter and Staycation Bible School suggestions to help pastors, Christian educators and youth leaders communicate with families and help them plan how to make Staycation Bible School work for them.
- Host training: Introduce parents and families to the lessons, activities and materials needed. Remember: Everything is flexible!
- Ingredients list: The supplies you will need for your SBS.
- Curriculum: Which will include…
- Setting the table: Daily supply list, suggestions for room set-up.
- Starters: Opening game/icebreaker, prayer time.
- The main meal: Background of the story, ideas for telling the story, discussion sessions.
- Books, treats and more:
- Art and craft activities.
- Recreation/game activities.
- Story suggestion with cooking activity (snacks and treats for each day).
- Service with a smile: Daily mission focus.
- Delightful desserts: Daily closing activities and reflection time.
- Our Daily Bread Café Recipe Book (Daily journal).
- Daily Café placemats (daily “poster” with Scripture verse, theme, coloring and games).
The goal of Our Daily Bread Café will be to engage children in learning food stories of the Bible each day through engaging all five senses: taste, touch, feel, smell and hear. Just think about it, we use all of our senses when we go to a restaurant as we:
- Smell the food when we walk through the door.
- See how the restaurant is decorated, see people who are there, see food when it comes to the table.
- Touch the menus, the silverware, the food that we hold in our hands and eat with our mouth.
- Hear the food being made, the people talking with us at the table.
- Taste the food.
