A prayer for the Baltimore bridge collapse

Early on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, a container ship crashed into a 1.5 mile bridge in Baltimore, Maryland. Several vehicles fell into the waters below.

"Photo of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on a beautiful spring morning with a rusted old retaining wall in the foreground. This bridge is also known as the Outer Harbor Bridge. It is a continuous truss bridge spanning the Patapsco River, and is the third longest span of any continuous truss bridge in the world. It opened in 1977 and is named for Francis Scott Key, the author of the Star Spangled Banner."

God our strength and comfort in times of trouble and tragedy, be with those who lost their lives today on and around Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge. Comfort those who mourn. Strengthen the rescue workers on the scene. Hold the victims close.

For all those shaken by this loss of infrastructure, by this collapse of a once-strong foundation, Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Amen.
