In June of 1998, Charlie Blanchett and Des McGrath set sail from New Zealand, intent on visiting the Polynesian island of Tonga. Midway through their journey, a series of storm systems collided, creating severe and dangerous weather conditions in what would later be called the “ultimate storm.” The sailboat was pummeled by sustained winds up to 150 mph while waves up to 80 feet high threatened to overtake the vessel....
