90-minute webinar with Q&A
April 16, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. EST

On-demand replay will be available

This past January, the Outlook published a magazine dedicated to small church vitality. Within days, our extra copies of the magazine sold out and articles from the issue, such as “The future of the PC(USA) is pastor-less, and that’s ok” by Catherine Neelly Burton, went viral. We heard from many readers that practical thoughts, ideas and conversations about the ministry of small churches are important.

Join us for a webinar to continue the conversation our “Small is beautiful” issue started.

On April 16, Outlook Editor/Publisher Teri McDowell Ott convened a panel of voices from our January issue including Catherine Neelly Burton, Warren Lesane, Shavon Starling-Louis, and Philip Blackburn.

Together, the panel discussed some of the troubles facing small churches, the strengths of these worshipping communities, and practical examples of small churches thinking in creative ways to continue their ministry. This conversation was followed by a Q&A with audience members.

About our hosts:

Catherine Neelly Burton is the mission and ministry connector for the Presbytery of Southern Kansas where she works with small churches extensively. She and her family live in Wichita.

Warren Lesane is a native of Mayesville, South Carolina, and a product of Goodwill Presbyterian Church, which produced more than 30 PC(USA) pastors. He received his Master of Divinity from Johnson C. Smith University, and he is the executive and stated clerk of the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic.

Shavon Starling-Louis is co-moderator of the 225th General Assembly of the PC(USA). She received her Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary.

Phillip Blackburn is the director of the Thriving in Rural Ministry Program at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. In addition, he and his wife Tasha co-pastor First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
